You’re so right Tash! I was a music critic back in the day, and Grammy time was all about lobbying and pandering.
Oddly enough, though 24 Karat didn’t start out well, actually. Some critics were skeptical and I feared it might be his first “miss.”
But the groundswell built gradually, as people who know about New Jack Swing et al began to realize what a remarkable creation it was, and others just fell in love even if they had no idea what he was throwing back to. So it was the kind of album the voters could feel very good — and very PC — about supporting.
For sure there are a lot of underlying issues we could grapple with, but…yeah, I’m with you. Let’s just dance ’til we sweat first! Get up a good head of steam to tackle the hard stuff later on…
