Could not disagree more about Wattpad. I use it as a writing tool more than anything else, though. Knowing there are a few devoted readers waiting for each chapter keeps me writing every day.
And I’ve worked my way up to being featured and being on the Wattys Long List, without doing much more than posting “new chapter notices” each week. Don’t use the community much, don’t post announcements often, save for those new chapter alerts.
One rewrite is underway, after an initial author note and announcement to my readers that I’d be working my way through gradually and labeling edited chapters as “Revised” as I went along. They’re delighted, not confused.
If you’re looking to be “discovered” and become one of their stars or tapped for their new publishing company…could be a long wait. But if you need a little added incentive to write regularly, it’s fantastic.
